One Fit Mama™'s First Birthday!

One Fit Mama™ has expanded to meet the needs of families in 3 counties! Their prenatal and postpartum fitness classes are now offered in Philadelphia, Montgomery, and Bucks Counties. One Fit Mama™ is hosting a Family Picnic on Saturday, September 9 at 12:15 pm, to be held at Oreland Park, Clement Ave. and Allison Rd., Oreland, PA. Local families are invited to celebrate One Fit Mama’s 1st Birthday, and to kick off the new fall schedule! Families who are expecting, or those with young children, can pack a picnic lunch, and also try out an 11 am fitness class beforehand at Holy Martyrs School. Kids can play at the playground, and parents can enjoy getting to know other families in the area!

From Monday, September 11 to Friday, September 15, to celebrate the kick-off of its new locations, classes at Kelly Drive (Philadelphia), Manayunk Canal Towpath (Philadelphia), Peace Valley Park (Doylestown), and Mondauk Commons (Ambler) will be FREE for all who attend! A complete class schedule can be found at onefitmama.com

Yoga Mamas™ is a gentle yoga class designed to build strength and endurance for new moms. The class will concentrate on rebuilding the strength of the abdominal wall, back, and pelvic floor as well building endurance and stamina. Special attention is placed on developing correct posture to combat the stress on your body and back caused by poor posture during the feeding, lifting and carrying of your baby. In addition to strengthening the above areas, the benefits of postpartum yoga include decreasing overall stress and tension, and meeting other new moms in your area. The class is suitable for beginners to yoga, as well as those who have practiced yoga before.

One Fit Mama™ provides mothers (and fathers, grandparents, and nannies) the opportunity to exercise while interacting with their children. This is an incredible resource for new moms, who sometimes feel isolated in their homes. Besides providing a great workout, group exercise has been proven to decrease the risk of postpartum depression. Participants get an individualized exercise program at a fraction of the cost of a babysitter or personal trainer. In addition, with the incidence of childhood obesity skyrocketing to epidemic proportions, One Fit Mama™ provides an excellent opportunity for adults to serve as active role models to children.

One Fit Mama™ was created in June 2005 by Tricia Streit Perez. After the birth of her son, Caleb, in February 2005, Tricia found it difficult to resume her exercise routine because it wasn’t feasible to find a babysitter each time she wanted to go to the gym. As a Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC), Tricia knew it would be stressful and costly to put Caleb in daycare. One Fit Mama™ was the perfect solution – stay full time with Caleb and continue working in the field she loves! Tricia earned a B.S. in Sports Medicine/Athletic Training from Barry University in 1997; she completed her Masters Degree in Sports Management from Florida International University in 2002. She became Certified as an Athletic Trainer by the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and became licensed in the state of Florida in 1997. She has been licensed to practice in Pennsylvania since 2003. In addition, Tricia completed coursework in Pre- and Post- natal fitness through the American Council on Exercise (ACE) in 2005. She lives in Oreland, PA with her husband, Willie, their son, Caleb, and their two dogs.

In addition to 60 minute stroller classes, One Fit Mama™ offers Infant and Child CPR training, as well as monthly discussion groups with local area experts on various child care topics. Prenatal and Mommy and baby yoga classes are coming soon!
